This offer closed on Thursday October 29th.
This Hydro Functional Fitness program is designed for people who are finding exercise a bit of a challenge due to knee pain.
The program is for people:
*with knee pain associated with arthritis or following injury or surgery (more than 3 months ago)
*who want to improve their leg strength and fitness
*willing to attend the pool at least twice a week for 6 weeks
*able to fill in some forms online
*who have a tablet or smart phone that they can watch the videos on or a set of bluetooth earphones
*who have an email address
*happy to give some feedback at the end of the program to help improve it
You don't have to be a swimmer or have attended aqua fitness in the past. All the exercises are done in the shallow part of the pool.
Don't be scared off by the tech aspect of the program, we've had people from 30 to 85 manage with this well.
Because the program doesn't include direct supervision by a health professional on-site, it is not suitable for people who
*need assistance to get in and out of the pool or help while exercising in the water
*have complex health conditions that would benefit from greater input
*had surgery in the last 3 months or currently seeing a health professional for their knee (please speak to your treating practitioner for the best option for aquatic exercise)
The aquatic program is individualised for you to follow videos on your tablet or smart phone (or using bluetooth wireless earphones) while exercising in the pool. It sounds different and it is different but we will support you every step of the way. Our first pilot program started well in Melbourne but due to COVID-19 restrictions we had to suspend it. We are grateful to Belgravia Leisure and your Centre Management for supporting us with this innovative aquatic exercise program for people with knee pain.
If you register your interest using the button at the bottom of this page then we will send you some questions via email regarding your health and knee to see if the program is right for you.
When you start the program you will receive support including
* a telehealth welcome appointment with a physiotherapist to check your health status and discuss the goals of the program
*weekly emails with your specific video program links and technique tips tailored for you
To join the program, you will need to be available (and excited!) to learn more about your knee and exercise and attend the pool at least twice a week for 6 weeks.
Research shows us that 6 weeks is the minimum time in which to see improvements in your knee. Really this program is a kickstarter to being more proactive with your knee.
If you are interested please click the button below. This will take you to a form where you can give us your contact details.
There is no cost to the program as this is the second stage of a pilot program we are developing. We are also supported by a grant from the City of Melbourne.
You will still need to pay your membership or your visit costs to the pool.
If at the end of the program you'd like to consider a donation to one of the charities that your centre supports such as the Belgravia Foundation, connecting people of disadvantage to healthy, active and meaningful sport and recreation opportuniis only a suggestion.
If this opportunity sounds like something that you might benefit from, please get in touch using the button at the bottom of this page.
If you're not sure and want to know more before signing up, we are holding an information sessions on zoom for 30 minutes so you can find out more about knee arthritis and exercise and what the 6-week program involved and decide from there (this session is also free, you don't need to join zoom just click on the link below). This health and knee survey needs to be completed by Saturday October 31 (in order for you to be able to book a telehealth appointment in the following week if you are offered a place on the program).
Unfortunately there are only a limited number of places on the program. If you miss out on a place, we will contact you in the future if there are any other programs planned.
